DTE Power Outage

A guide to help tenants navigate a DTE Outage and downed power lines

Overview

Gas and electric services are provided by DTE Energy for all residents in Washtenaw County (Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, etc). When an power outage occurs, it can be alarming and inconvenient. Baker Street is unable unable to restore power, reattach downed or disconnected cables, or provide you with a generator.  We are also unable to check on the status of each outage, so we encourage you to check directly with the source, DTE Energy.

DTE Power Outages

When a power outage occurs, DTE Energy crews work as quickly and safely as possible to restore power to all of their customers. They have an Outage Center homepage on their website with important resources. To find an estimate of when your power will be back on, please check your Outage Status.

You can also find out how extensive the outages are in your area by viewing our interactive Outage Map. Zoom in on the map and click on the color-coded outage area or search by ZIP Code in the top right-hand corner to determine a restoration estimate.

You can also report an outage anytime, anywhere you have cell service with the DTE Energy Mobile App.

Downed Power Lines

IMPORTANT: Be safe! Know the dangers of downed power lines.

  1. Stay at least 25 feet away from a downed power line and make sure that you and your family, pets and neighbors don’t touch anything it touches – like a fence, or a puddle.
  2. Be sure to call 9-1-1 if there is an emergency such as a fire.
  3. Assume all downed power lines are live and dangerous - even if you don’t see sparks, smell smoke or hear buzzing. Coming in contact with a downed power line, including touching it with an object – like a broom or pole – can result in serious injuries.
  4. Do not drive across a downed power line. If a power line falls on your car, stay inside and wait for help.
  5. Never cross yellow barrier tape surrounding the area of a downed power line.
  6. You can report a Power Line Problem on DTE's Website.
